Good Governance

Tuesday Nights 5:00 pm PST / 8:00 pm EST
September 17, 2024 – November 19, 2024

This training program is designed to prepare newly elected church governing body members to understand their roles and responsibilities. Participants will learn about the corporate duties of a church governing body, protecting the tax-exempt status of the church, the importance of segregation of duties, managing restricted and designated funds, missionally driven leadership, budgeting with a missional focus, reading financial reports, and safeguarding the church against fraud.

Each session is designed to be dialogical in nature.  Some will begin with a PowerPoint presentation followed by group discussion.  Others will be group discussions facilitated by the course facilitator.

Pastor and Church Finance

Wednesday Nights 4:00 pm PST / 7:00 EST
September 18, 2024  – November 27, 2024

This training program is designed to provide church pastors with financial acumen not typically covered in seminary. Participants will learn about the corporate duties of the church governing body, how to address toxic leadership, the importance of segregation of duties in the financial system, protecting the church’s tax-exempt status, understanding IRS-defined accountable plans and housing allowance, reading financial reports, presenting budgets with a missionally driven narrative, and preventing fraud in the church.

Each session is designed to be dialogical in nature.  Some will begin with a PowerPoint presentation followed by group discussion.  Others will be group discussions facilitated by the course facilitator.

This training program is designed to prepare newly elected treasurers in the Church to effectively fulfill their role. Participants will learn about the corporate duties of a church treasurer, how to oversee church finances with a missional focus, establish policies and procedures, implement segregation of duties, make mission-focused financial decisions, interpret financial reports, and prevent fraud in the church.

Each session is designed to be dialogical in nature.  Some will begin with a PowerPoint presentation followed by group discussion.  Others will be group discussions facilitated by the course facilitator.

This training program aims to equip church leaders with a structured process for developing financial policies and procedures that align with their church’s unique setting, polity, ethos, and structure. Participants will learn the importance of financial policies and procedures, engage in a process to discern and define these policies specific to their church setting, understand the intent and purpose behind these guidelines, clarify responsibilities, and cover key areas in a financial policies and procedures manual.

Each session is designed to be dialogical in nature. Some will begin with a PowerPoint presentation followed by group discussion. Others will be group discussions facilitated by the course facilitator.

This training program is designed to introduce church leaders to various tax issues that churches may encounter. Participants will learn about the types of taxes churches are responsible for, the exemptions churches enjoy, potential risks of losing tax exemptions, and special tax-related issues related to ministers, donors, employees, and independent contractors.

Each session is designed to be dialogical in nature. Some will begin with a PowerPoint presentation followed by group discussion. Others will be group discussions facilitated by the course facilitator.

This training program is designed to provide church leaders with a comprehensive understanding of employees, independent contractors, and payroll-related issues specific to the church context. Participants will learn the distinctions between employees and independent contractors, exempt and non-exempt employee categories, the ministerial exception, payroll taxes, housing allowance, state and federal application of unemployment and disability taxes, and workers’ compensation, including completing a workers’ compensation audit.
